Sustainability

We are fortunate enough to be surrounded by beautiful countryside and have a daily reminder of the environment around us. We are committed to maintaining our environment for future generations. We've taken a number of steps to make our house and cottages energy efficient, have introduced comprehensive recycling procedures, and are working to sustain the environment we live in.

Here are some of the steps we've taken:

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

We are constantly working to make our properties more energy efficient.

All windows have been updated to the highest performance.

Are fitted throughout the property.

We're upgrading all appliances

to be more energy efficient

Switch to Renewable Engery

RESPONSBILITY PURCHASING AND REDUCTION IN SINGLE USE PLASTIC

Where possible, we source locally. If we can't buy local - we only buy from suppliers that show their own sustainability credentials.

SUSTAINABLE GARDENING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

We've moved significantly towards adopting the RHS guidance on sustainable gardening for the environment.

Here's what we're doing.

Cut-Flower Garden

We've created our own year-round cut-flower garden so that we can welcome guests with plants that we've grown ourselves.

Onsite Compost Heap

We have created and are using our own compost for all of our activities.

Our New Planting is Perennial

We've moved away from annual and biannual plants to perennial planting.

We're Using Rain Water

We've put water butts around the property for water to use in the garden.

We're planting trees

We're always planting trees - and particularly fruit trees, so that we have a supply of locally grown fruit.

RECYCLING

We actively encourage all of our guests to recycle their waste. We've put four bins outside each property and categorise as follows.

The waste company we use also recycles.

Cardboard

We separate and flatten all cardboard.

Glass

Glass bottles are Glass is separated out, and our glass milk bottles are washed and returned to the dairy.

Plastic

We always separate plastic into a specific container.

Tins and Cans

These are cleaned and collected separately.

Food waste

We've put in compost bins and we have compostable bags. This all goes on our compost heap.
